Big Sister?

So the freaks are in the house! This years Big Brother has started off with 11 women! I can only assume that they will inject some testosterone (if you don't include Charley and Carole) as time goes by. They first guy will go in live on Friday night - poor thing!

I'm loving this years house. Definitley the best yet. I'm liking the topsy turvyness of it (bath in the living room, fridge in the garden, oven in the bedroom etc). It's pretty colourful too. Looking forward to see how they all settle in. I cringed when those two twins went in. I think they should have kept them secret and alternated them as the season went on (a la BB Australia/USA). My favourite so far is Nicky - she seems decent enough! Only time will tell though!

Tonight's The Night!

Well, after 8 months (not including the celebrity version in January), Big Brother returns to our screens tonight for an 8th series! Now I know what you're all thinking (OK, not all, but most), but I really do like this programme. I've watched it since season 1, day 1 way back in 2000 - in fact, I rememeber watching the programme months before the original season started. It introduced us to the format then there was an appeal for contestants at the end - only 5000 people applied.

The launch night is something I always look foward to. Ever since BB3 it's been live (previous to that is was always 2 days before it aired). I much prefer the live launch. Me and a mate I used to work with used to be the only 2 people who watched it and we became addicted during BB2. Luckily, in my new job, I've found people just as mad! I have some friends coming over tomorrow night for launch night food and drinks. I almost didn't get the night off. I was scheduled to be working a double shift today, but I got that swapped!!

I'm somewhat looking forward to this season - something tells me it's going to be a good one! I guess in 21 hours we'll find out!!

General Update

It's been a while since I sat down and did a proper update. The truth is, I've just been really busy with work and stuff. Since coming back from home last Tuesday, I've been working every day since. I've one more shift to go then I have a day off on Wednesday. Work has been quite busy of late. I'm looking forward to the day off! We seem to be surrounded by death at work. If we don't have someone dying on the ward, we seem to have a work colleague who knows someone who has died. I'm getting worried!! Another thing that has anoyed me at work is that I have now done 4 late shifts in a row (thats 2pm through until 9.30pm). I don't mind doing late shifts - infact they give me a lie-in in the morning - but it annoys me when I do lots. Suppose my pay will be OK next week (I get enhanced pay for working late shifts).

I've had my MacBook Pro now for a week and I have to say I'm in love with it! It took a little (okay, a lot) of getting used to seeing as I was a Windows boy, but I'm now used to Safari and I like it. We connected the MacBook up to our 42" HDTV via the DVI port and watched a few trailers in HD. It looked great on the TV. It'll look cool when playing music and having the screen saver running. Think that's an excuse to have a party!

I got the letter through in the post to re-enrol at university. I have two more modules to do and then I have a dissertation. I've decided that I'll now study a module to do with law and ethics and I'll do another module about caring for the older person. I did want to do a module on health promotion, but now you have to do a 3hr exam at the end of it so I think not!

Right, I'm up at 6am - bed calls!

Melanie C - Carolyna

The first proper single from Melanie C's new album 'This Time'. It's became one of my favourite albums of the year so far. Her last single 'I Want Candy' was a bit of a joke. This is the real sound of the album. Hope it does well!

Virtual Haircut??

Sit with your headphones on and your eyes closed and play the following video. Before you say I PROMISE that it's nothing scary or anything that will give you a fright. It's an example of how the brain perceives and processes sound messages.

Virgin School

Did anyone else see this programme on Channel 4 last night?? Basically it was following a 26-year-old chap who was still a virgin. He felt he couldn't be a man until he had lost his virgininty. So, what did Channel 4 come up with? Sending him to a sex school in Amsterdam. Well, I say sex school. I was a house ran by three older women who taught this young guy how to have sex - and then one of them had sex with him at the end (prostitution to you and me).

I can't help feel sorry for this guy. Not only did he have no confidence at all to revert to such a thing, the whole thing was broadcast on national TV. I had images of his family having heart attacks while watching it. Especially his poor nan who had no idea wh he was going to Amsterdam. I hope she hadn't gathered all of her mates from bingo around to make a night of it!! The weird thing was, no matter how much you watched it and felt compulsed, you still had to watch it!

Good old Channel 4!

Music Review: Girls Aloud

May 14th 2007 @ Newcastle Metro Radio Arena

Last night I went to see Girls Aloud in concert. I'm one of those secret fans who like Girls Aloud but just don't admit it (you know who you are). I was quite pleased when I went home to Newcastle in November last year and my sister said she wanted to see Girls Aloud but no-one would go with her. Perfect excuse, so I bought her the tickets as part of her Christmas present!

We got pretty god seats - only about 11 from the front. They were great in concert, I was pleasantly surprised. They played for about an hour and a half and sang most songs from their Greatest Hits CD (yeah, they actually sang live!). One of the main disadvantages of the show was the time taken between dress changes. Other gigs that I have been to that have required a dress change have had music and dancing. They had this, but it sometimes took a good 30 seconds or so after a song finished for it to kick in!

I managed to get some photos and a few videos. I'll try and upload them soon. I just got my Mac today so I ned to get used to it and find out how to upload stuff to flickr.

UPDATE: Pictures have now been uploaded to my flickr page. You can find the link in the sidebar.

Girls Aloud

I'm off home this afternoon. The reason? I'm seeing Girls Aloud at Newcastle tonight! It's their opening gig of their tour. I'm quite looking forward to it. I guess I'm one of those secret fans hehe.

I decided to get the train rather than drive. I best be off!

Good-bye Windows - Hello Mac!

For the past view months I've been sniffing around the new Macbook Pro. Visiting it each time I pass the Apple shop and teasing myself watching the videos on YouTube. Well, today I gave into temptation and finally ordered myself one!

It should be delivered in a few days! I can't wait!!

Results Day!

Well, today is the day I find out if I have passed the second module of my degree! As well as submitting an essay, I'm also required to update and hand in my professional portfolio. This is something that the NMC require me to do to show that I am updating my practice. I've been working on it for the past three days, so hopefully it should be OK!

I Drank Far Too Much Vodka!

I had a night out on Sunday with some mates from work to celebrate one of their birthdays. As we all were working on Sunday, by the time we made it out it was 22.30. I drank way too much vodka and was feeling rough the next day. Vodka is evil (but so nice). It's also handy.....

1. To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with vodka. The solvent dissolves adhesive.

2. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, fill trigger-spray bottle with vodka, spray the caulking, let set five minutes and wash clean. The alcohol in the vodka kills mold and mildew. (Would licking the mildewed caulking hurt me?)

3. To clean your eyeglasses, simply wipe the lenses with a soft, clean cloth dampened with vodka. The alcohol in the vodka cleans the glass and kills germs.

4. Prolong the life of razors by filling a cup with vodka and letting your safety razor blade soak in the alcohol after shaving. The vodka disinfects the blade and prevents rusting.

5. Spray vodka on vomit stains, scrub with a brush, and then blot dry. (I wonder where the vomit stain came from to begin with. My guess is the vodka’s already in the carpet).

6. Using a cotton ball, apply vodka to your face as an astringent to cleanse the skin and tighten pores. (Don’t forget your tongue).

7. Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo. The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair, and stimulates the growth of healthy hair. Only her bartender knows for sure.

8. Fill a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle and spray bees or wasps to kill them.

9. Pour one-half cup vodka and one-half cup water in a freezer bag and freeze for a slushy, refreshable ice pack for aches, pain or black eyes. (Why not just drink a half cup of vodka and cut out the middle man).

10. Fill a clean, used mayonnaise jar with freshly packed lavender flowers, fill the jar with vodka, seal the lid tightly and set in the sun for three days. Strain liquid through a coffee filter, then apply the tincture to aches and pains.

11. To relieve a fever, use a washcloth to rub vodka on your chest and back as a liniment.

12. To cure foot odour, wash your feet with vodka. (Even I won’t go there).

13 Vodka will disinfect and alleviate a jellyfish sting. (So will pee, but I think I’d prefer vodka).

14. Pour vodka over an area affected with poison ivy to remove the urushiol oil from your skin. Gotta kill that itch somehow.

15. Swish a shot of vodka over an aching tooth Allow your gums to absorb some of the alcohol to numb the pain. (Don’t forget to swallow).

Comedy Review: Alan Carr

May 2nd 2007 @ Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

Ever since I saw Alan Carr on TV a couple of years ago (Long before he was famous on 'The Friday Night Project'), I have been wanting to see him live. Last year he came to play at Manchester but tickets went as soon as they went on sale. This time around I managed to get tickets to go and see him at Liverpool. I was quite pleased with myself as I managed to get front row tickets. So, last night, me, Alan (not Carr) and our friend Marc went to spend the evening with Alan Carr!

The show started at 8pm. From the moment he stepped on stage he had us laughing out loud! The mixture of real life with a camp twist was hilarious. Making us laugh about him moving house and the he talked about his family. Especially his dad who is the Northampton Town football manager Graham Carr.

The London gig he played was filmed for a DVD release. Looking forward to it already!

BEST LINE: (on talking about the orange girls that work in beauty shops) "Natural?? The only way that is natural is if your mother fucked a Wotsit"
